The Rules of Our Shooting Range

We love to shoot. But we find that being safe while shooting is even more enjoyable. These rules were not randomly put in place. They were very intentionally designed and implemented to keep you and everybody else safe. We ask that you follow them at all times.

Our range has been certified by the NRCS for the use of:

  • Handguns;
  • Manual & Self-Loading Rifles;
  • Carbines;
  • Shotguns;
  • Muzzle Loading Firearms.

We provide equipment for:

  • Ear Protection;
  • Eye Protection.

Should you feel unsure in your ability to use and shoot your firearm, please ask for assistance when arriving, we will gladly assist!



WARNING:

Irresponsible behaviour or damage to the range and its facilities on purpose could result in a Section 12 conviction and ALL the perpetrators’ licenses could be revoked.
  • No smoking on the premises.
  • No drinking or eating on the range.
  • No nonsense will be tolerated.

Entering and Admission:

Please Note:

  • The right of admission is reserved
  • NO person under the influence of liquor, drugs or any form of intoxication may enter the range.
  • When entering the facilities all firearms WILL be carried in accordance to the stipulations as in The Firearms Control Act (Act 60 of 2000).
  • Any firearm, LOADED OR NOT, may only be removed at the shooting point (the table).

Reminder:

  • Eye and ear protection must be used when entering and shooting in the range.
  • Treat and respect any firearm as if it is loaded.
  • Keep your finger off the trigger. Only have your finger on the trigger when you are on the target and ready to shoot.
  • Before putting the firearm down on the table, make sure it is unloaded and safe.
  • THE FIREARM(S) MUST POINT DOWN THE RANGE AT ALL TIMES, EVEN WHEN SAFE OR EMPTY.
  • No firearms may be handled more than a half a meter behind the shooting point.
  • Entering and using any of the facilities is done entirely at the users risk. Potshot Shooting Academy, or 4Guns Shooting Club, or any other institution, member, employee, or associate of the above-mentioned identities, cannot be held responsible for any happenings, claims or action instituted by any person(s) or institution(s).

 Users and Limitations:

  • The range and its facilities may only be used by a person in possession of a Competency Certificate for the firearm(s) that they intend to use.
  • Any training or supervision may only take place by a Potshot Shooting Academy accepted person.
  • Only the lanes’ designated targets may be aimed at or fired at.
  • No cross lane shooting is allowed.
  • No shooting at any other object(s) is allowed.
  • Shooting or aiming at any range equipment is not tolerated.
  • There is a maximum of 2 people allowed at any one shooting bay.

On departure:

  • Do not collect other shooters’ cases. You may only collect and take you own spent cases.
  • You may load your Handgun – if you are licensed for self-defense (Section 13) and then it MUST BE HOLSTERED before leaving the shooting bay.
  • All other firearms must be unloaded and bagged.

Additional Rules regarding Muzzle Loading Firearms:

  • The powder must be prepacked before entering the range.
  • No tinned powder is to be taken on or into the range.

Malfunctions:

If you experience a firearm malfunction – which you cannot clear – please notify the range officer or any employee. We will come and help.
